Full Version: Snails...........!

My new 5' tank for the Rhom had a layer of sand in it when I bought it, which I left in. Anyway I now have dozens of snails, which obviously came in with the substrate. I have deployed a lettuce leaf in, but it will have little effect I suppose.

I havent heard of any medications that wont knacker your filter, so I might deploy an assassin snail next week.

Rant over............

I alway thought that there was a snail med that didnt trash the filter!?!?!?

I bought one... never used it. I'll go double check now.

Try this, Its the one I have and says it wont kill the biological filtration... But does contain copper.....

What snails are they? I like the 'Malaysian trumpet snails' great for turning the sand over and keeping it clean. Other snails, do no harm and can be beneficial in eating up any leftovers.

I've got to be honest Den and say Im not sure. They have a conical shell, and are about 10-12mm long.

Anyway- round one to me- I fed the Rhom a few mussels last night and went to bed, and when I came down this morning he hadnt eaten one, which was literally black with the little sods.

Net deployed, I reckon I've got 60-70% of the visible ones. diablo.gif

any had any assasin snails?

I have had a few snail outbreaks in a couple of tanks, wondered if they are as good as the adverts on ebay?

They are Malaysian trumpet snails, they're great for turning over the substrate, they live under it most of the time. If they are all over the glass its normally an indication of low oxygen content, or the only other time you see them is when there is some uneaten food laying around.

I'm all 'snailed out' at the minute mate, thanks very much for the offer, despite them eating leftovers I dont want them in with the Rhom, so they're on borrowed time. diablo.gif
