After seeing my 50 Gallon tank the other week, my friend asked me yesterday if it was possible to have asingle RBP in a 10 Gallon tank.

Would this be advisable at all? I told him that I would more than likely not grow to it's full size as it would be restricted due to the size of the tank, but could it be done?

welcome to the forum a 10 gallon tank is too small for even 1 fish the general rule is 20 gallon for every fish
Big Den
Hi Ben welcome2.gif to the forums. As already said, a 10 gallon is not big enough for a fish that has a growth potential of 10" plus, and wouldn't be very kind to the fish.

Even a 20G tank would be too small in my opinion, Piranhas like a lot of free swimming space.

Tell him to get a big tank :P

Just as I thought. He can get a bigger tank, he was just wondering. I was thinking I might get a few more Piranha soon, unfortunatly my last shoal of RBP in my old tank turned on each other. ohmy.gif Wasn't a pretty sight to see them going for each other, but still managed to save one, hence why I now only have one left in my 50 Gallon tank instead of 8 in my 200 Gallon tank. sad.gif

I did ask him if he had a bigger tank, but he has to wait to payday and I know he is impatiant and will want one now, but as you said, the bigger the better. smile.gif thanks.gif

why does "YOUR FREIND" want a single red belly? they are a shoaling fish so wouldnt be right on its own it would be quite a boring tank imo

I dont know why he does, he just does! I just keep my RBP on his own, but he is getting a it big for my tank now, got a new tank today (5x2x2 foot) so am setting it up now ready for my RBP to go into. smile.gif
