i've got blue LEDS 2 but someone told me you need to have them off at night so the fish can go into sleep mode, any truth in this or can they be kept on 24/7?

I wouldnt, I have blue lighting and always turn it off at night. Firstly its useing pointless electricity, secondly lighting in piranha tanks is just for our benefit and thirdly, as far as I know all fish need darkness to sleep.
Alex
they look in great shape and nice colouration buttrock.gif

Big Den
Are they nipping each other yet James? They look the same size as my second lot and mine are biting chunks out of each others fins. I reduced the temp yesterday, see if that helps. My first batch dont have a mark on them although they are in a smaller tank.

ive had a few fin nips but dont seem to get as many now when they were about 2.5"ish they where knocking lumps out each other but not bad now the biggest 1 out of them he seems to be boss what im surprised is they are not that skittish for tankys compared to the last little reds i had
Big Den
I think its a lot to do with tank location James. Like how much traffic goes past the tank and at what height it is off the floor. I have one lot in a tank in my fish room/garage at the end, at head height. When I go within 10 foot of them they go mental. The other lot, in my office are to the left of me at waste height, and are totaly different, even finger chase.

a few of mine will come to the finger aswell this time i didnt put alot of cover in tank to try and stop them from being skittish plus its a bigger tank than i had with my last reds in, at feeding time they all come up to the hole where i put the food in mine are greedy b*stards they would eat till they burst at first i thought they might be wild reds as the bottom lip sticks out more than the last tankys i had but am sure they aint as i got them when they where tiny from a lfs im going there today again so going to ask them where thay got them from
