1-0 to the net

well last night was a bit of fcuk up
.... i decided to give the stingray pond a good scrub so had to transfer the ray to a temporary holding tank,
and cos i was rushing about i just grabbed the net and scooped him up without really thinking about it,
and of course the inevitable happened..... the rays stinger got caught up in the net which made the little fcuker freak out and spin himself into a complete tangle.... long story stort, after cutting most of him free with the scissors his stinger was still badly tangled and as i was cutting around it
(fcuk me you gotta have a steady hand working that close to rays stinger) he freaked again and the stinger ripped out

salted the tank and left him over night and he seems ok thankfully... fingers crossed it wont cause any infection


managed to get some macro shots of the barb tho fcuk me these things are lethal

im just happy the ray is alive... he's seriously p1ssed off but ok i think

the stinger was really small, wouldnt want a sting off a full grown ray

best thing is a little plastic shovel swim them on lift them out.
Well at the end of the day just glad you didn't get stung or your ray well not worth thinking about.

Bearing in mind i know fook all about rays..does the stinger grow back

i usually use an old plastic container to scoop him up,
but as usual i was rushing around like d1ck and just grabbed the net without really thinking about it... leason learnt i suppose




yeah it a fair sized stinger isnt it, wouldnt like it in my arm thats for sure
no worries about today, was rushing abit myself, yet another trip to the vets


yeah they grow back steve, rays shed there stingers as they grow (once, maybe twice a year i believe)
i think this one will take a while to grow back cos it was snapped off

Thats a shame that it snapped off At least you wasnt injured. Are stingrays venomous or anything? On that first picture i though that was its tail Looks massive!
