Hi this may be a stupid question but after my weekly water change yesterday there is water dripping from the back of one of my tanks and if i run my hand along the bottom of the tank and stand at the back there is quite a bit of water. i was wondering if it is likely to be condensation because of the way the lid fits straight on top of the tank without any trays or anythin in between where as my other tank has sliding glass then the lid.

The tank is a jewel reckord 120 i beleive, it is only a temporary measure until i can find a new tank for the right price, has anyone else had similar problems with tanks like this? if it is condensation what can i do to prevent it?

dunno if any of this makes sense sorry just panicking that i'm going to flood the house and lose my fish.. cheers..

A good way to find out is stick some tape in line with the water level and check it 24hrs later if its condensation it'll not drop a very noticeable amount. If its leaking you notice it. One thing any chance you might of splashed water over the back and not noticed while doing water change?

I had thought that but then I felt the carpet an its soaked so it couldnt be.. ive noticed water sitting under the front edge of the lid before but never the back or that amount.. ill try the tape test and measure the amount lost.. cheers

Could be worth checking your hoses on the external filter for any small splits.

Cheers for the responses, I've just been home and removed the lid there was loads of water around the whole underneath so ive dried it all off and dropped the water level an inch.. no more water around the back an ill keep an eye on it but the problem now is that the wood is all swollen and bowing slightly over the edge as the stand is one with an overhang over about 5 or 6 inches either side, should i be worried about this or will it be ok?.. thanks..

If the wood has swollen time to change it. You get mould in it or dry rot. An it will just break up. I no its different but i watched a 18 month old 25k wooden conservatory fall to the ground threw dry rot as the installer did not seal it properly.
